The Folklore Museum of Chania (or “Cretan House”), housed in a restored 18th-century Venetian mansion behind the Municipal Market, is a living treasure of Cretan folk tradition: it represents authentic farmhouse spaces with a loom, cellar and wine press, exhibits costumes, woven fabrics, embroidery with famous “kopanelia”, olive and viticulture tools, wood-carved iconostasis, musical instruments, as well as rich photographic and archival material that captures customs, celebrations and everyday life of Crete from the 19th to the mid-20th century; open daily 09:30 14:30 (closed Sunday) with general admission of 4€ and reduced admission of 2€, offering experiential tours, weaving and tradition workshops, highlighting the continuity between yesterday and today and inviting the visitor to touch the roots of Cretan identity in the center of the old town.
