Kato Daratso Beach (Golden Beach) is approximately 4km west of the center of Chania and is famous for its fine golden sand, shallow turquoise waters and low dunes protected by tamarisk trees; organized with sunbeds, umbrellas, showers, changing rooms and a lifeguard (June-September), It has disabled access and a blue flag, while to the east there is a small water sports center and a playground in the coastal grove, making it ideal for families. Behind the coast there is a pedestrian street with taverns, cafes, mini markets and a parking area, while access is easy by bus from Chania to Kolymbari (stop “Golden Coast”) or by bike path. Photogenic sunsets, gentle waves thanks to the islets that “filter” the northwest wind and the possibility of short walks to the neighboring beaches of Agioi Apostoloi complete the experience in a destination that combines urban comfort with a sense of island carefreeness.
